Cones vs Sticks: What Is the Difference?
If you are wondering how incense cones are different from incense sticks, here is a quick and easy breakdown!
1. Scent intensity: Incense cones release their fragrance more quickly and with a richer, fuller scent than sticks. If you love a room that fills up fast with a beautiful aroma, cones are your best friend.
2. Burn time: Cones typically burn for about 15 to 25 minutes, which is a little shorter than sticks. But in that time, they pack a lot of scent! Perfect for a meditation session, a quick energy cleanse, or a short self-care moment.
3. Backflow magic: Some of our incense cones are designed to work with backflow incense cones burners. Instead of the smoke rising up, it cascades downward like a little waterfall. It is mesmerizing to watch and adds such a beautiful visual element to your practice. If you love this idea, check out our incense burners collection for some stunning backflow burner options!
4. No bamboo core: Unlike sticks, cones are solid all the way through with no bamboo stick in the middle. This means you get a purer scent experience since there is no wood burning along with your incense.
Both are beautiful for spiritual practices. It really just comes down to what experience you enjoy most!
How to Light and Use Incense Cones
Cones are simple to use once you know the steps:
- Light the tip. Hold a flame to the pointed top of the cone for about 10 seconds until it catches.
- Blow out the flame. Gently blow so the tip glows orange and begins to smolder and smoke.
- Set it on a heat-safe holder. Place the cone on an incense cone holder, burner, or dish that can handle heat and catch the ash.
- Let it burn and ventilate. Keep a window cracked for airflow. Most cones burn for 15 to 25 minutes.
- Extinguish fully. When you are done, press the lit end into sand or dab it with water and make sure it is completely out.
Using a backflow cone? Place the backflow incense cone (the kind with a small hole in the bottom) on top of a backflow incense burner so the smoke flows down through the hole and cascades like an incense waterfall. Use cones made specifically for backflow for the best effect.
