Another drama filled week …

I am still waiting to see if I get approval for a loan to get a car. My car has broken down 3 times in the last ten days. Thank goodness for friends and kind hearted strangers.

My ex is dating someone and it is serious, he’s talking about her moving in ... and since I found out I have felt nauseous, don’t get me wrong I don't want to be with him but the thought of someone else living in our home with my kids has set me off balance.

I have also been feeling a bit unwell as I have irritable bowel syndrome, this has been an ongoing issue and I have been looking at more natural ways to deal with it. I was really excited to find out that the next chakra I have been researching the Solar Plexus chakra is directly linked to digestive issues.

The third chakra is associated with the color yellow. This chakra is also where your self-confidence, identity and personal power are born.

We all know I could do with a bit more self-confidence and personal power as often I feel life is just happening to me and that I have no power over all the drama. I have always been a “yes” person. Ask me to help and I will agree to it … I am always on every school committee, I am always the person who organizes the coach’s thank you gifts from the team, want someone to stay late to clean up, ask me I never say no … Well that is about to change, I want to feel confident enough to say no every now and then, I always seem to spread myself too thin, it is time to gain some much needed control.

Below are some ways you could align and open your solar plexus chakra:

Use Stones

You could wear solar plexus chakra jewelry, hold a stone in the palm of your hand when meditating, or simply carry one in your pocket to help keep your solar plexus in alignment.

These stones are the most popular for solar plexus chakra healing:

Amber: Amber stones are an orangey-yellow in color, and they are linked to both confidence and mental clarity. Use this stone if you’re struggling to make a decision.

Yellow tourmaline: Yellow tourmaline is physically impressive, and it is often advertised as a “detox” stone, it helps rid you of negativity.

Citrine: This pale yellow stone is often called the “success stone”. Use this stone on your journey to personal empowerment and greater self-esteem.

Adjust your diet

Increasing your fiber intake, cutting back on sugar and reducing the amount of saturated fat in your diet are great steps to take to heal your chakras. There are particular foods that target the solar plexus and can speed up solar plexus chakra healing for example, yellow peppers, corn and chamomile tea.

I would also add more complex carbohydrates as they will give you a steady, sustained supply of energy instead of just a spike in blood sugar, which will give you the energy to pursue your goals. Good examples include brown rice, brown bread, and wholegrain cereal.

Practice Breathing Exercises

Since the third chakra oversees both digestion and metabolism, you can easily awaken both with breathing exercises. WARNING: do this activity on a relatively empty stomach.

  1. Sit comfortably with your spine straight and your shoulders relaxed.
  2. Start by taking a few deep breaths in and out your nose with your lips closed.
  3. Then, forcefully inhale through your nose while inflating your lower abdomen and forcefully exhale through your nose while pressing the lower abdomen towards your spine.
  4. Use one-half count on the inhalation and one-half count on the exhalation at a rapid pace. You will feel like you’re getting an abdominal workout.
  5. Try for 10 repetitions and then work it up to 15 or 20. After you’re finished, you will feel a tingling or glowing feeling around your navel.

Practice Yoga

Not enough can be said for the benefits of yoga to your health and as I am finding out it is also fantastic for healing and opening your chakras.

Performing yoga poses that strengthen your core is healing for the solar plexus. Asanas like Boat Pose, Four limbed staff pose, Crow pose, Half moon pose, Crescent pose, etc. can be practiced to balance this chakra, increase your self confidence and leave you feeling empowered.

Ask yourself some tough questions, the answers will be helpful in working out if your solar plexus chakra is balanced.

Self Reflection Questions for the Third chakra:

  • Who in your life takes your power away from you?
  • How can you regain balance in your relationships?
  • When was the last time you said “no”?  What is preventing you from saying “no” to situations and circumstances you don’t want to be a part of?

When your 3rd chakra is balanced, you should feel a sense of wisdom, decisiveness and personal power …

Today, after a week of focussing on activities that heal my solar plexus chakra, I feel able to say no to situations that I do not want to be a part of … for instance my daughter’s teacher asked me to head up the next school fundraiser, I said … NO! Well, actually, I said “sorry I can't commit to leading the fundraiser but I am happy to assist”, which is a huge step for me!

I also, told my ex that I am not comfortable with his “girlfriend” being invited to family gatherings yet but that I would like to get to know her. Wish me luck on that front as we are meeting for coffee tomorrow!!!!!

My IBS has also calmed down a bit, I think that has a lot to do with alleviating the stresses (by saying NO), tweaking my diet and being more active. I remember watching yoga classes and thinking that is not exercise, they are barely moving … boy was I wrong! I feel like I get a better workout from yoga than from a spin class. But the hidden benefit of yoga is the quiet, introspective time that heals the mind and soul.

On that note, I am off to convince my children that we need to get out of the apartment and breathe in the scents of fall.  

Please keep me in your thoughts tomorrow as I meet “her”. I plan to go with an open heart and mind, I have even planned my day so that I can squeeze in a little meditation and positive affirmations before we meet. I just keep thinking that she is probably feeling just as weirded out about our meeting as I am.
